LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) has distributed cash rewards worth Rs 36 million among 120 policemen over their good performance during the year 2017-18 at a ceremony in Gujranwala.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police NH5 Mehboob Aslam Lillah chaired the ceremony, while Mian Amir Aziz was the chief guest, who gave away prizes to the policemen.
A cash prize of Rs 300,000 each and certificate was given to the policemen who performed with distinction in all areas including motorbike helmet campaign on the highways. The prizes were given to the police officials from the rank of constable to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in the Gujranwala division.
DIG Mehboob Aslam lauded the efforts of policemen for success of different initiatives of the highways police, adding that the awareness campaign for the containerized traffic remained successful. He said that the road safety campaign launched for the safety of the road users would play a vital role in creating awareness among the masses, which would result in controlling road accidents and saving precious human lives. He said 63 out of 92 road accidents were caused by the bikers during the year 2017.
The DIG said the department was about to launch an awareness campaign in schools about road safety and importance of wearing helmet by motorcyclists. He said appreciation goes a long way in improving the performance of the officials, adding that the rewards would help improve the performance of the policemen.
